The Artem-class Patrol Cruiser is a capital ship class used by the Vast Empire. It is a multi-purpose vessel platform that comes in a variety of designs. In addition to the standard patrol configuration, the Artem-class comes in communications and missile cruiser platforms.

Characteristics[edit]
Used primarily as a heavy patrol craft, the Artem-class is well-suited as a vanguard command craft for territorial patrols, scouting missions, and picket defense assignments. Depending on the configuration of its storage space, the vessel could also carry 1-3 TIE squadrons or a couple companies of mechanized infantry.
History[edit]
With the advent of the Great Migration and the expansion of the Vast Empire's holdings, the Vast Empire commissioned a sturdy base platform for a light capital ship. With an expanded region of space to defend, and an increase in mission roles to accomplish, a vessel with speed, firepower, and the ability to adapt to a variety of cargo/passenger capacity requirements was a necessary addition to the fleet.
The first Artem vessels were deployed to the newly formed Fourteenth Fleet in late 10 ABY. They quickly earned the respect of their crews and became one of favored vessel designs in the fleet.
Variants[edit]
Communications & Control Cruiser[edit]
With operations in deep space a priority given recent events, consistent and reliable communications links to other units and vessels are at a premium. The C&C variant of the Artem-class trades storage for modern communications and fleet command equipment. From short-range transceivers to advanced scanning gear to full Holonet connections, this vessel allows convoys and patrol elements to communicate with other task forces to coordinate their efforts, even in the vast emptiness of the Outer Rim.

Missile Cruiser[edit]
The need for heavy firepower in dispersed naval task forces required vessels that were compact yet deployed high concentrations of weapons systems. When large Star Destroyers were not available, nor required, to attack pirate/privateer fleets or blockade runners, missile cruisers were the next best thing.
Firing a salvo of twelve missiles every 20 seconds, each cruiser could overwhelm a moderate sized fleet's defensive systems and soften up the target vessels for interdiction or destruction by other ships.
