Category:Basic Army Information
As a member of the Stormtrooper Corps, you are expected to absorb a lot of information right away. For those of you unfamiliar with any type of military organization, this is a difficult task, especially when lacking the appropriate background information.
The Basic Information section is your introduction to military organization, and to the Imperial Army's take on it. Here you will be able to pick up on some of the nomenclature used in the Corps, and on the gear and equipment that are most basic to military units both allied and opposition. It is not a definitive source, it is what is most commonly known information about modern combat.
The following sections break down the information presented in usable and relevant sections by topic.

Components of the Stormtrooper Corps[edit]
The Stormtrooper Corps is the direct descendant of the Grand Army of the Republic, created to combat the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. At the time, one of the largest armies ever created managed to fight in over a thousand theaters of war against overwhelming odds.
Tipoca City, on Kamino, was the primary cloning center, creating the original 1.2 million clones that participated in the war's opening battles. An additional two million were initially grown, decanted and trained at the Baran Wu and Su Des stations, with the clone portion army swelling to billions of troops by the war's end. The original clone groups were said to average a 200 to 1 kill ratio against their droid adversaries; experience only improved this.
Led primarily by Jedi and subordinate clone commanders, the GAR forces learned to fight in all environments, with some receiving specialized pilot, environment, and commando training. While the Jedi General concept is no longer used, the specialization of roles remains a part of the Army.
One legacy of the GAR that remains is the Mandalorian cult amongst some members of the the Army, specifically the stormtroopers. The original cloning template was, of course, the bounty hunter Jango Fett, and the Kaminoans hired many ex-Mandalorian soldiers as combat trainers and drill instructors. The Mando culture of brotherhood, endurance, and loyalty as well as its language and traditions were a major influence on these early troopers.
This diminished a bit as flash training of clones became the norm, as well as the conscription of non-clone stock and the use of other, non-Mandalorian clone templates. Even so, the army's anthem remains Vode An (Brothers All), an adaptation of a Mandalorian marching chant. The GAR's motto remains that of the Imperial Army as well: Kote Darasuum, or Eternal Glory as is translated from the Mando'a.
Indeed, any man between the ages of 18 and 30 who scores in the top fifteen percentile of his military aptitude tests will likely be contacted by an Imperial recruiting agent to enlist and to potentially arrange DNA sampling for cloning. Men who do not score that high are still wanted as regular troopers.
The present day Army consists of various components:
- Stormtroopers
- Regular Army troopers
- Civilian militias
- Conscripted local forces
Within the Corps itself, as we are nominally not a part of the Army but an adjunct to it, we have the following subsets of troopers:
- Advanced Recon Commandos (ARC)
- Advisors
- Reserves
- Retirees
Structure of the Imperial Army[edit]
While most missions will involve solely squad or platoon level interactions, it is important for new troopers to understand the unit structure used by the Imperial Army. This is a direct continuation of the setup of the Grand Army of the Republic minus, of course, the use of Jedi as ground commanders and generals.
Officially, a member of the Imperial Army is called a Trooper (always capitalized). Elite members of the Stormtrooper Corps are known as Stormtroopers. The Imperial Army is divided into the following components, from largest to smallest in terms of troop strength:

Rank Structure[edit]
The Officer Corps provides leadership and managerial functions, and is composed of:
- Company Grade officers
- Second Lieutenant (2LT)
- First Lieutenant (1LT)
- Captain (CPT)
- Field Grade officers
- Major (MAJ)
- Lieutenant Colonel (LTC)
- Colonel (COL)
- High Colonel (HCL)
- General officers
- Brigadier General (BG)
- Major General (MG)
- Lieutenant General (LG)
- General (GEN)
- and Command Grade officers
- High General (HG)
- Surface Marshal (SML)
- Grand General (GG)
- Field Marshal (FM)
- Moff (MF)
- Grand Moff (GM)
- Supreme Moff (SM)
There are several sources of commissioned officers:
- The Imperial Officer's Academy at Coruscant, Carida and other Imperial centers
- Graduates of other military academies of the militaries may elect to be commissioned in the Imperial Army
- Enlisted soldiers or College graduates who successfully pass Officer Candidate School (OCS)
- Lawyers, doctors, nurses, veterinarians, and chaplains may be directly commissioned into their respective corps
- Enlisted soldiers may also be battlefield commissioned for valor and leadership during actual combat.
The Non-Commissioned Officer Corps (or NCO Corps) is the first line of leadership for the enlisted members of the Army, and includes the ranks of:
- Corporal (CPL),
- Sergeant (SGT),
- Senior Sergeant (SSG),
- Gunnery Sergeant (GSG),
- Sergeant First Class (SFC),
- Platoon Sergeant (PSG),
- First Sergeant (FSG),
- Sergeant Major (SGM).
Training for NCOs takes place at any of the various NCO training centers around the galaxy.
Until relatively recent history, most countries depended upon their officer corps to micromanage strategy, tactics and virtually every other aspect of military operations. Current military theory has begun to emphasize the "strategic corporal," recognizing that combat decision-making by NCOs is potentially of vast importance.
The lowest enlisted ranks are:
- Private (PVT),
- Private Second Class (PSC),
- Private First Class (PFC),
- and Lance Corporal (LCPL)
Training for enlisted soldiers usually consists of Basic Training, and Advanced Individual Training in their primary Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) at any of the numerous MOS training facilities around the world.
Leadership[edit]
The civilian executive is the head of the Vast Empire, currently Supreme Moff Kadann.
The professional head of the Vast Empire Army is the Prefect of the Stormtrooper Corps. Other Imperial factions draw a direct distinction between the regular army and their Stormtroopers, yet the Vast Empire has chosen not to do so. The current Prefect is SHigh General Rizzit.
The military chain of command as determined by the Stormtrooper Corps is as follows:
- High Council
- Prefect
- Executive Officer
- Regimental Commander
- Battalion Commander
- Company Commander
- Platoon Commander
- Squad Leader
- Trooper
- Squad Leader
- Platoon Commander
- Company Commander
- Battalion Commander
- Commander of Training

Specialized Stormtroopers[edit]
There were several subgroups in the stormtrooper Corps with training and equipment for particular mission profiles, generally sorted by the type of environment the trooper will encounter.
- Coruscant Guards: Coruscant Police Stormtroopers.
- Radtroopers: Radioactive Zone Assault Stormtroopers.
- Seatroopers: Aquatic Assault Stormtroopers.
- Sandtroopers: Desert Stormtroopers.

Equipment[edit]
Vast Empire Specific Equipment[edit]
Phoenix Platoon squads are well known for their special operations missions and since the start of 10ABY have been granted access to some of the latest equipment.
Infantry equipment[edit]
According to internal doctrine, the Imperial Army relies on the best equipped and trained individual soldier as possible as the basic element, and aims to multiply his effectivivity with the most advanced tactics possible. This has indeed made the Imperial Army the most advanced land force in the world, but has also caused new problems. Since this doctrine causes high expenses on each soldier, it has made warfare very expensive, which is a detriment to the Empire when large scale conflicts like the Rebellion occur.
