Members’ CPS Guide[edit]

The most important part of the CPS system is choosing which Characteristics or Skills to learn or upgrade. This sounds scary at first, especially when you see the list of Skills. Fortunately, it’s actually a pretty simple process.

Templates[edit]

We use Wiki templates to record levels in both Characteristics and Skills. You do this by adding numbers to the template code.

Characteristics[edit]

An example of a Characteristics template section is below. Remember: The Characteristics template already has every line it needs. All you need to do is change the number that appears after “level” (the last line in each number section). For example: Senior Crewman Falloner just decided to upgrade his Body characteristic to 1. In order to do that he chooses to edit his Wiki, scrolls down to the code below, and changes the 0 to a 1. He then clicks save and is done.

The number section for a Characteristic:
|1char=Body
|1met=-
|1level=0

Characteristics also have métiers. These are already in place just like the main Characteristics, so all that is needed is to edit the number. For example: Senior Crewman Falloner now wants to upgrade his Strength métier to 2. To do so, he chooses to edit his wiki, scrolls down to the code below, and changes the number to 2. He then clicks save and is done.

The number section for a Characteristic Metier:
|2char=Body
|2met=Strength
|2level=0

Skills[edit]

Skills are just a little more complicated than Characteristics. Since there are so many, there isn’t any pre-coding for them. Due to that, you will need to fill out a number section for each Skill and each Metier. Remember: You must have the base Skill in order to train a Metier, and you must show that Metier below that specific Skill. For example: Sergeant Tragellan has the Bureaucracy skill and wishes to learn the Paper Trail métier. In order to do so, he adds a number section directly below the Bureaucracy skill and adds the appropriate data to the four lines.

  • Category: The category the Skill/Metier falls into. This will be General, Navy, Army, or Background.
  • Skill: The name of the Skill chosen.
  • Met: The chosen Metier. Remember: If the section is for the Skill itself, not a métier, only type in a dash.
  • Level: The level, 1-5, that the Skill or Metier has been raised to.

The number section for a Skill/Skill Metier:
|1category=
|1skill=
|1met=
|1level=

Point Costs[edit]

It makes good sense that the more you increase a given Characteristic, Skill, or Metier, the more effort you will need to expend to upgrade it even further. With that in mind, please consider the table below carefully.

Master Cost Table[edit]

  • Characteristic (Body, Mind, Spirit) -> 6 x current level
  • Characteristic Metier -> 3 x current level
  • Learning new Skill/Metier -> 4 points
  • Existing Skill -> 4 x current level
  • Skill Metiers -> 2 x current level

Characteristic Cost Table[edit]

Following this method, the cost progression of a given ‘’’Characteristic’’’ will look like this:

  • Everyone starts with Level 1
  • Upgrade to Level 2: 6 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 3: 12 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 4: 18 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 5: 24 Points

Characteristic Metier Cost Table[edit]

Following this method, the cost progression of a given Characteristic Metier will look like this:

  • Learn Metier: 3 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 2: 3 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 3: 6 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 4: 9 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 5: 12 Points

Skill Cost Table[edit]

Following this method, the cost progression of a given Skill will look like this:

  • Learn Skill: 4 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 2: 4 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 3: 8 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 4: 12 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 5: 16 Points

Skill Metier Cost Table[edit]

Following this method, the cost progression of a given Characteristic will look like this:

  • Learn Metier: 4 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 2: 2 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 3: 4 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 4: 6 Points
  • Upgrade to Level 5: 8 Points

Complementary Skills[edit]

When you need to use a Skill but don't have that particular one, it is possible to use a Complementary Skill. However, you will not be able to do skills-specific actions if using a Complementary Skill and whatever your level for that Skill is will only be counted for half. For example: Chief Petty Officer Rangul needs to use Console Systems, but doesn't have it. He does have level 4 Communications, though, so he chooses to use it instead- however, it counts only for level 2.
