The Enforcer-class Picket Ship is a capital ship class used by the Galactic Empire, particularly by factions such as the Pentastar Alignment.

Background[edit]

The mission capabilities of the Enforcer is very wide, but the focus is combat. Often the Enforcer is paired with it's sister class, the Interdictor-418, in anti-piracy task forces. Also, the Enforcer is often used for escort duty in convoys if no Star Destroyers are available or are not needed. Should it be necessary, it may function as a support ship. The numerous weapons complements make the cruiser a very suitable starfighter defense platform.

Enemies of the Empire have quickly learned to fear the appearance of the vessel. These feelings are not completely unfounded as an Enforcer is theoretically capable of initiating a Base Delta Zero maneuver on it's own.

The primary shortcoming of the Enforcer design is the fact that it provides little room for ground troops, and no mechanized units whatsoever. For this reason, for invasions Vindicator-class or the modern Procursator-class vessels areused. Because of this) is the enforcer more in direct support of command units (eg by settling or direct air support by fighter squadrons used.

However, for the roles it is best suited for - patrol, pickets, escort duty - it is tops of it's class.

Characteristics[edit]

Enforcer-class cruisers were built on the same 600-meter frame as the Immobilizer 418 cruiser and Vindicator-class Heavy Cruiser. Naval architects inspecting the Immobilizer 418 design removed the massive power generators from an Interdictor cruiser and discovered that by rearranging the vessel's power grids, they could significantly beef up the ship's energy weapons, shields, and tractor beams. Even the engines experienced a bonus from this reconfiguration. The end result was a very fast and maneuverable vessel that was well armed for a ship its size.

Additional space was utilized to include hangar bays for two squadrons of starfighters as well as one squadron of Scimitar bombers.

By maintaining the reactor performance and the elimination of energy-intensive gravitational field projectors, it is possible to install more powerful shield generators and a better drive system that can bring the ship to a maximum speed of 75 MGLT. The reactor also ensures that the ship is capable of deploying more powerful weapons systems than other similar craft. It is often classified a "pocket battlecruiser" because of these elements.

History[edit]

The Enforcer-class was designed by Sienar Fleet Systems and Kuat Drive Yards engineers located in the Pentastar Alignment at the behest of Grand Moff Ardus Kaine, but the vessels were manufactured at the Galentro Heavy Works shipyards at Jaemus. The ship was born out of Kaine's desire to quickly rebuild fleet strength.

Although labeled as a picket, the cruiser served as the frontline vessel of Kaine's resource-strapped fleet. These ships were deployed mostly in pairs. Formations based on this number became more common as Kaine's forces continued to grow, so sightings of four or six ships working in tandem became more common.

The success of Kaine's use of the design spread to other factions and in turn led to further designs based on the Vindicator/Enforcer frame.

Initial deployment by the Vast Empire Imperial Navy Fourteenth Fleet began in 10 ABY, with years of Imperial service proven in other sectors prior.
