Ensign Hunter Morrell is currently retired from the Vast Imperial Navy.

Bio[edit]

Personality[edit]

Principles and Ethics[edit]
  • Loyalty - Hunter is fiercely loyal, even to the point of near death, and would do anything for his friends. This strict loyalty has gotten Hunter into many a bind.
  • Right and Wrong - While Hunter has a clear sense of right and wrong, sometimes its difficult to tell when there are gray areas.
  • Honesty - Although Hunter values honesty greatly and normally is extremely honest, there are times when honesty is not the best idea. Even in those situations, Hunter rarely lies, choosing to just not tell the whole truth or distorting the truth.
Mentality[edit]
  • Sadistic - Although it rarely shows itself, Hunter does have a sadistic side that, when emerged, is frightening. To date it has only been seen once.
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - This usually manifests itself randomly. This has led Hunter to develop a theory that he has an invisible switch embedded in his brain that switches on and off at random intervals depending on mysterious circumstances.
  • Facade - Hunter is an accomplished actor. He knows exactly how to act for a given situation and can plausibly portray himself as nearly anyone.
Flaws[edit]
  • Broken - The fact that the Navy didn't need him anymore hit Hunter hard. Because nearly his whole life had been spent in service to the Empire, a life outside of the Empire was foreign and alien to Hunter. Feeling that he has lost it all, he more or less has lost the will to live. His sense of self-preservation gone, he no longer cares if he is alive or dead and usually feels as if he is stuck somewhere in between, a situation that he aptly describes as "limbo".
  • Emotions - While Hunter can usually keep his emotions in check, if not completely hidden, sometimes they get bottled up too tightly and burst, losing nearly all control over himself for a short amount of time. It can appear in a wide variety of ways, from a blind rage to a fearful flight. Given his current physical and mental state, this will most likely happen more often than not.

Appearance[edit]

Usually dressed in semi-casual clothing, Hunter prefers to look at least partially fashionable, yet at the same time, still be practical. Not overtly handsome, but slightly above the average, Hunter can be a person who can instantly command your attention if he wants, but could pass right in front of you and be forgotten mere moments after. Hunter can subtly manipulate people, just by positioning himself or holding himself a certain way. His reactions can be tailored to suit a certain person and situation, giving him a very useful advantage over some people. When not acting, Hunter's default is a slightly rigid posture that he has adopted because of his years in the Imperial military. While his naturally rebellious nature is quelled for the most part, Hunter is lenient when it comes to his face and hair. Clean shaves and crew cuts were highly recommended, but Hunter always pays them no heed. His hair is a dirty blond color and usually slightly on the shaggy side, while his face usually varies from a hint of stubble, to a soul patch, to a goatee.

History[edit]

The Beginning[edit]

Hunter was born on Rhen Var to Flaar Morrell and Shusha Ploshe. Never staying in one place for more than a few days, Flaar and Shusha preferred to travel the galaxy, exploring. Eventually, they had a run-in with a criminal and dealt him a near-fatal blow. Out of revenge, the aforementioned criminal hounded the pair throughout their galactic travels, nearly catching them countless times, but due to the pair’s luck and abilities, they always managed to escape. This cat-and-mouse game continued on for years until Hunter was conceived. Fearing for their unborn child’s life, they quickly arranged for the building of a small, self-sustaining facility on the ice planet of Rhen Var. The almost inhospitable planet would make the perfect place for them to live in isolation, while they raised their child. When Shusha was around 5 months pregnant, the facility had progressed far enough to be livable and so, Shusha and Flaar moved in. Because the majority of the facility was underground, it was easy to live in the small building that was on the surface while the builder droids continued their work underneath. Though the droids were working underneath, there was always a small level of background noise that continued to exist up until Hunter was a few years old, which was when the facility was fully finished. What had taken so long was hewing away the ice so that the walls could be built. Not only did they have a mini-food processing plant, they had a small hangar that held a few ships in case they needed them one day, a multitude of droids, a small power generator, a small armory, and a storage room that held things that the duo had collected over the years. It seemed that they had everything they needed right there, and so they were effectively shut off from the world.

Hunter’s birth wasn’t too complicated. With the medical droid Flaar and Shusha had purchased before isolating themselves, the birthing went smoothly and nothing went wrong.

It was readily apparent early on that Hunter was different from the normal children they had seen. To start with, he hardly ever cried and while he was extremely curious, he always seemed to know if something was going to hurt. The pair did their best to teach him themselves, though it was hard because he was so young. Despite that age barrier, Hunter still somehow understood what they were trying to teach him.

Trouble in Paradise[edit]

And so his loving parents cared for him and raised him, up until the fateful day when Flaar and Shusha’s past caught up to them. The facility had been equipped with a rudimentary sensors system set up to detect any incoming traffic, though it couldn’t specify the type of ship, it could tell where it was. One day, the sensors system picked up a ship heading on a direct course for the facility and, fearing the worst, Hunter, now ten years old, was ushered down into a safe room that was hidden away in a corner of the hangar and told to stay there until they came back to get him. Unfortunately, company was a rarity and Hunter’s curiosity got the best of him. He snuck out and made his way to the small spiral staircase that led up into a small room that attached to the upper building by way of a secret panel. Slowly, he ascended the staircase and it was only when he got to the top, that he heard the sounds of raised voices. Sneaking forward, he silently slid the panel aside a little bit and peeked out . . . just in time to see his parents, the only two people he had ever known and loved, executed in cold blood by a group of four men. All it took was one clean shot in the head for both.

Looking back on that day, Hunter realized that that was the first moment that his photographic memory presented itself, as he could not forget the criminal’s face in the years to come, no matter how hard he tried.

Fearing for his life and silently grieving, all he was able to do was huddle in the corner in the fetal position as his mind tried to come to terms with the fact that he was now alone. He could hear the men on the other side of the wall, searching around, looking for anything of value. He could hear them scraping against the walls and talking. At least, until a high pitched whine was heard, which soon decreased in volume and eventually disappeared? To Hunter, it sounded like another ship, but he dared not look. The men’s voices faded away, and he assumed they had gone outside. Not too long after the men went silent, Hunter felt a small itching sensation on the nape of his neck. Reaching up to scratch it, he stopped as it went away as quickly as it had appeared. Unknown to him, the men who had killed his parents had just been killed themselves, though the leader of the group managed to get away.

Soon after, footsteps echoed across the room and seemed to walk directly across the main room and straight to the false panel as if the being to whom the footsteps belong knew what was behind the wall. With a bit of delicate maneuvering, the wall panel was removed and a silver-haired human stepped through. After spotting Hunter, he grinned and beckoned to the young human.

“Ah. I thought I sensed a presence in the Force.” he said softly, mostly to himself.

The human moved over to the corner slowly, crouching down as he did so as to appear less threatening. When he reached about three feet away from Hunter, he stopped and extended a hand.

“Don’t worry. I won’t harm you. I’m here to take you away from this. You don’t have anywhere to go, so why not come with me?” the man said, giving another grin to show he was being sincere.

While Hunter wasn’t normally inclined to trust strangers, even though he hadn’t known any, he couldn’t help but believe the man and he didn’t have anywhere else to go as the man had said. So, he went with him. The man turned out to be a Force-sensitive Imperial Inquisitor named Wayas, who later took Hunter as his apprentice, though he was deemed not Force-sensitive when they reached the Imperial headquarters.

Later, Hunter found out that Wayas had only been there because the Imperials had received an anonymous tip that a hit was going to be made on Arkania by a band of wanted criminals. Another Agent had been following the same band of criminals for a few months, but was killed in a firefight. Wayas had been tasked to investigate the tip in the place of the deceased Agent.

It was then that Hunter’s life changed.

The Imperial[edit]

Ten years later, the little frightened boy that had cowered in the corner on Rhen Var was no more. In his place, stood a bold man, full of humor, yet still capable of being serious. He had seen many things in the service of the Empire, some of which he hadn’t wanted to see, but he seemed to be relatively untouched by what he had seen, something that his comrades couldn’t quite match. Inside, however, was another story. He wasn’t fit for this kind of service. He wasn’t a cruel man by heart, and so went against many orders that were given to him, which was probably some of the reason why he wasn’t already an officer. While no one could deny that he had talent, it was his emotions that he couldn’t control. Maybe that was why he had earned the nickname “Bleedin’ Heart”. If he saw someone in need, he helped them, despite any orders he had at the time. Punishments meant nothing to him; they had no effect whatsoever, much to the consternation of his superiors.

Traitor to the Empire[edit]

His mentor, Wayas, had long since been killed, leaving Hunter relatively alone. He had no friends, for there was no one like him, at least no one that he had met. While that didn’t necessarily bother him, it didn’t seem right. He had no one that was kind to him, and so he always got the hard jobs, the ones designed to get him in trouble for the ones who issued the orders knew how to push Hunter’s buttons. They knew what would make him disobey his orders and they took advantage of that. One day, the final straw came. His squadron was deployed to Trandosha, to oversee some “trading” operations for the Empire. When they arrived, Hunter realized that they weren’t overseeing trading of goods, they were overseeing the transporting of slaves. Living, breathing slaves. That didn’t sit well with Hunter. In his eyes, slavers were scum, some of the worst kind. Immediately, he began to try and stop it, but he was ignored. His own squadron mates were laughing and hollering with the crowd, paying no attention to Hunter. He knew that he couldn’t let them go on, and so he fired his blaster on the slavers, and started a firefight. While he survived, most of the slavers didn’t, and he was hauled back to Coruscant in shackles. He was jailed for so long that he completely forgot how long it had been. Finally, he was brought before a Tribunal, and judged.

The Great Escape[edit]

The judges were about to deliver the verdict, whenever an aide rushed into the room and up to the long table behind which the judges were seated. He whispered something in the ear of the head judge, who let out a shout. Confused, the other judges muttered. Once the head judge had fully digested the news, he relayed it to everyone.

“The second Death Star has been destroyed and the Emperor and Vader are both dead!” he managed to stammer out.

Immediately, everyone rushed out of the room, Hunter completely forgotten. Even the two guards that was behind Hunter left as well, leaving him to gape in astonishment at his incredible luck. Still in the stun cuffs that had been slapped on wrist before the Tribunal, he stuck his head out the door and, seeing no one in sight, snuck out and silently padded down the long corridor. Amazingly, he encountered no one on the long trek through the hallways. Eventually, he found a terminal and accessed it. Pulling up a map, he realized that he was in the Imperial Palace, on one of the sub-levels. Finding the nearest hangar, Hunter memorized the route and took off at a dead run. He nearly fell down out of shock when he passed an open doorway, that lead to some sort of armory, which was all he could tell from his quick glimpse as he passed by. Quickly, he ran in and found a blaster, and used it to blow apart his stun cuffs. Rubbing his wrists, he looked around for a powerful, but portable weapon. He settled on a deadly looking knife, which he slipped in sheath that he tied to his shin, and something that looked vaguely like a slugthrower.

Exiting the armory, he began to run faster and, calling up a mental map of the route, realized that he was nearly there. He came within sight of the doorway, when a man exited from a doorway across from the entrance to the hangar. The man stopped and his eyes widened as he saw Hunter.

“You there! Stop!” he yelled, moving towards Hunter with his hand outstretched.

While he held no weapon that Hunter could see, Hunter wasn’t taking any chances. He raised the gun he was holding and, aiming at the man’s feet, pressed the trigger. A small projectile shot out and clattered to the floor, landing at the man’s feet. Both the man and Hunter realized what it was the second it went off. A resounding boom later, and Hunter was lying on his back against a wall, with his ears ringing and his head pounding. Apparently he had picked up some kind of thermal det launcher, with some really, really powerful thermal dets. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he picked himself up off the floor and gingerly moved into the hangar. Again, his luck held and there was no one in sight. He picked out a TIE Interceptor and ran over to it. Hopping in, he started it up and lifted off. The hangar doors were open, so Hunter was able to exit without interference. Apparently, everything was in shambles due to the death of the Emperor, because no one challenged him as he shot through the atmosphere and into space. The TIE he was in was a special variety, one made for the elite pilots that were stationed in the Imperial Palace, so it had a hyperdrive, though it wasn’t exactly powerful. Pulling up the coordinates for the Ruan system, Hunter waited for the navicomputer to do its thing and then pulled the lever, sending the ship into hyperspace.

Rising from the Ashes[edit]

Eight years later and Hunter had yet to look back. It had been a long and hard road, but he was doing well as a smuggler. As he traveled the galaxy in his, now extensively modified, TIE, he picked up credits here and there from smuggling various things that enabled him to buy fuel and food. The leftover credits, he used to make more modifications to the TIE like advanced weapon systems and a small cargo hold with hidden compartments where he could keep items that he was smuggling while on the way to the drop-off points. After a while, his skills with a starfighter increased and he learned to use many different weapons because sometimes he was paid in weapons rather than credits, and they eventually attracted the attention of an officer in an Imperial faction, which he later found out was the Vast Empire. The officer contacted him one day and explained that he was an officer in the VE, an Imperial faction that had splintered a while before from the Empire, was in need of a skilled pilot like Hunter because their pilots couldn’t afford to undertake the mission if they were found out because it would look very bad and could possibly start a war. The officer sent him the details of the job, which was a simple one. All he had to do was do some recon in a system that the VE believed was the base of another Imperial faction that was starting to stockpile weapons. Hunter accepted and after preparing his TIE for the journey, entered hyperspace, his destination set for the suspect system.

Rebirth[edit]

Hunter exited into realspace just kilometers from the station. It looked deserted but if one looked closely enough, one could see distinct signs of habitation. He immediately sent reports and scans to the VE ship waiting on the very edge of the system. They reported an affirmation and told him to leave the station and return to their ship for the trek back to VE territory. He had just started to move when TIEs burst out of the decrepit station and shot him down. Managing to eject just before his ship exploded, Hunter drifted through space for a while. His body shut down slowly from the cold. One by one his systems failed until just his brain was left. Amazingly, it was still active, albeit less than normal, but it slowly shut down, leaving him very close to death. All of the sudden a droid appeared out of nowhere and brought his body back to the VE ship, which had spent hours scouring the wreckage of the now destroyed station for his body. They had registered an ejection before his ship exploded, but did not see where he had ejected to. After a grueling 10 hour surgery, they successfully brought him back to life, but not without a cost. He awoke in a strange place surrounded by strange people. The doctor told him that he had suffered major brain damage and, as a result, lost all of his memory. The doc said that it unlikely that he would ever recover it. Hunter just nodded his head and fell back asleep, which was exactly what the doctor did not want him to do. As soon as he closed his eyes, he was shaken and woken up by the doc. With brain damage like that, the doc explained, we can't run the risk of you falling asleep because you might not ever wake up again. He was disoriented for a few seconds and then he grasped onto what the doc was saying. For the next week, he did not go to sleep and instead, focused on trying to recover his memory, despite what the doc told him. It was a few days after he was released from the medcenter, that he fit the first part of the puzzle into place. Two pilots walked by discussing what they were going to be doing when they were on leave. I'm going to keep on hunting down the New Republic loyalist. I'm going to live up to my nickname as ‘The Hunter’. one pilot said. As soon as Hunter heard the last word, he frowned and tried to remember why that was familiar. He ran through different ideas, but as soon as he arrived on the possibility it could be his name, it came back to him. It was his name. His name was Hunter.

A Pirates Life For Me[edit]

After spending a few years in service to the Vast Empire, Hunter finally reached the rank of Ensign and promptly left the Starfighter Corps for undocumented reasons. After meeting with the Executive Officer of the Navy, Hunter was stunned and hurt. The XO, Shazam, had told him that the Navy simply didn't have anywhere for Hunter to go because of his unique skill set. He was in "limbo". And so, Hunter was placed into Reserves and left active service in the Navy. Left with no purpose or motivation, Hunter sought out the Osk Company. It was near the end of the trip to where the Osk Company was based at, that Hunter finally made it through the shock stage and right into the realization of the utter reality of his situation. He didn't just not simply have a purpose, he didn't have a purpose to live, although he hoped Osk could change that. With a rapidly increasing self-doubt and a rapidly declining sense of self-worth, Hunter arrived at his destination a nearly broken man.
