Squadron Specialization

The 42nd Imperial Bomber Squadron fly old TIE/sa Bombers, and they make up a full half of the 24 bomber pilots stationed aboard the ISD Adjudicator. They are highly trained in "The precise destruction of high-value targets, no matter how well defended, without any collateral damage." Krakana Pilots qualify in Ground Attack and Gunnery at first opportunity, and are considered extremely accurate and precise with all manner of heavy ordnance - and proudly claim that they can
"Level a hostile guard tower in a high-density population centre without any civilian casualties or damage to the surrounding infrastructure."

Krakana Pilots are known for their elegance and precision, something that slow and heavy bomber craft are not particularly well-known for. However, their narrow focus on the attack leaves them vulnerable to counter-attack, and they are reliant on escorts to protect them from enemy retaliation. Currently, Krakana's command team are trying to find a solution to this weakness in their doctrine.

Krakana Pilots are all Tier 1 Top Guns, and are usually qualified in Gunnery as well. Krakana's Veterans are also qualified in Advanced Flight Manoeuvres, and both Shark and Janissary are also qualified in Scouting.

Although the commanders (The SCO, SXO and SFL) of Krakana Squadron are elite veterans of countless bombing runs, the same cannot be said for the rest of the unit, most of whom are straight out of the Vast Empire's Naval Academy and whom did not see any action during the Battle of Bloodmoon. This means that the bulk of Krakana Squadron's members are entirely green, having never fired a shot in anger before.

Shark, Kraken and Janissary have been preparing their pilots as best they can for the battle they know will happen sooner or later, and are putting their pilots in simulated training against a variety of targets (including Starfighters) in a variety of difficult (and occasionally downright impossible) situations, in order to get the pilots used to feeling overwhelmed and afraid, so that they can operate with a cool heads in any situation.

However, there is only so much that training alone can prepare one for...

Squadron History

Krakana Squadron was one of two Imperial Bomber Squadrons formed during the "reformation" of the Vast Empire's Starfighter Corps that was assigned to the Chief of Naval Warfare, Wyl Trykon, aboard his personal flagship, the ISD Adjudicator. They share this honour with Gundark Squadron, and the two Squadrons have already developed a considerable rivalry that has them constantly trying to outdo each other in the eyes of Wing Command.

They were placed on reserve during the recent Battle of Bloodmoon and were not called up, with the frustrated pilots stuck sitting back in the Hangar Bay whilst the battle raged on around them, waiting for their chance to prove themselves. This has been a double-edged sword. Whilst they did not suffer any losses in the battle and are still at full strength, with the social bonds the founding members have formed intact, they have not proven themselves in their eyes or the eyes of the other Squadrons.

In an attempt to better learn from the mistakes of the Squadrons that did face combat and prepare themselves for their first real mission, Krakana Squadron has acquired the services of former Chlovi Squadron Commander Sam Dunn, and it is hoped that by observing and questioning their newest member, they will be able to avoid the mistakes made by the badly-mauled Interceptor Squadron. Lurek Zalis has been making sure his pilots speak to survivors of the battle whenever possible, to abolish any traces of overconfidence in them.

• 12 TIE/sa Bombers

Krakana Squadron is currently equipped with 12 TIE/sa Bomber craft, the primary bomber craft used by the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War. Considered to be slow and outdated by today's standards, Krakana is fond of the unit because of its extremely precise and reliable targeting and counter-jamming systems, and the VE refit provides remarkable durability thanks to the shield generators that complement their pre-existing heavy armour nicely.

Capable of carrying Concussion Missiles, Proton Torpedoes, Orbital Mines and various other loadouts, the TIE/sa is undoubtedly far more versatile than its immediate competitor, the Scimitar Assault Bomber used by the Thrawnists, and is swifter than the BLT Y-Wing used by the Rebel Alliance. It has potential overlooked by most pilots: a potential that Krakana Squadron plans to realize.
