Basic Illnesses[edit]

Bakuran Fever Bumps
this fever-like condition was encountered on the planet Bakura, and resulted in the victim being covered with numerous small welts.

Bothan Redrash
this disease was known to afflict Bothans and some other humanoid races, but was not always contracted by individuals in contact with it.

Brandy Ague
starfighter pilot slang for a hangover.

Cardooine Chills
this ailment is characterized by coughing, fatigue, body aches, and a ravenous appetite. The illness lasts about two weeks if treated with bacta, but the victim remains weak for a month or so afterward. The Cardooine Chills is only contracted once, because the victim develops an immunity to it.

Corellian Tanamen Fever
this flu-like illness is common on the planet Corellia. It is rarely fatal, especially if caught in its early stages. Even advanced stages can be treated with bacta and cured. Symptoms include high fever, extreme thirst, and loss of equilibrium.

Crazed Bantha Fever
this disease was carried by sand ticks, and transmitted to humanoids through its bite. The disease was not fatal, but was extremely painful.

Creek Fever
this disease was sometimes contracted by beings who wandered the jungles of Yavin 4. Unless treated, creek fever was often fatal.

Dagobian Swamp Cough
this hacking disease was caused by a virus found on the planet Dagobah.

Dantari Flu
this sickness, believed to have originated on the planet Dantooine, affected humans and many other humanoid species. If untreated, it can result in death.

Deepsick
this was a term used to describe the mental and emotional breakdown which occurred in certain individuals who had been traveling through deep space for long periods of time.

Dormo-shock
this was a coma-like, natural reaction to severe trauma. An individual who has experienced a physical trauma often enters dormo-shock.

Dry-scale Hives
this was a skin affliction which affected the Rodian race.

Dust Fever
this illness was common among young children on Tatooine. While in the grip of dust fever, the afflicted individual often had vivid dreams of strange and unusual themes.

Hesken Fever
a non-fatal disease.

Hibernation sickness
the result of being frozen in carbonite too long, it is characterized by dizziness and blindness.

Luf Virus
this was a particularly offensive, communicable disease that affected most humanoid races. It originated on the planet M'haeli, and flourished in cities and ghettos.

Nerf-pox
this was a mild, childhood disease that affected most Alderaanian youths.

Petal Fever
this mild disease is common on newly-settled planets. It is not fatal if treated quickly.

Plyridian Fever
this disease, which was often fatal if not properly diagnosed, had an incubation period of about four weeks. Any being discovered to have the initial symptoms of the disease had to be quarantined for up to four weeks, to determine whether or not plyridian fever was the cause.

Rachuk Roseola
a skin inflammation caused by a virus found in the Rachuk System, this form of roseola infects nearly every visitor to Vladet, unless they are properly vaccinated prior to arrival.

Rodian Jungle-Rot
this was a disease, believed to have originated on Rodia, which affected the skin.

Scurrier Disease
this unusual disease, believed to be carried by wild scurriers, was sometimes contracted on the planet Tatooine.

Sinjaffe
this childhood disease sometimes struck young members of the Bitthaevrian race, and was almost always fatal.

Spice Narcosis
a condition experienced by many Sevari who leave their native world of Sevarcos. The atmosphere of Sevarcos is laden with spice particles, and the Sevari have become used to it over time. However, if a Sevari leaves Sevarcos without carrying a supply of spice to breathe, he can enter a state of spice narcosis.

Trichinitis
an easily treated disease.

Chronic Disease[edit]

Bitter Winter
this was the Basic name for the Brekken Vinthern disease.

Blastonecrosis
a disease, characterized by a loss of appetite and fatigue, that can be masked by the use of lotiramine. Lotiramine hides the tracer enzymes that mark the disease's presence in the body.

Blood Fever
this was the term used by the Jedi Knights of the Old Republic to describe a being's descent from using the Force for defense to drawing on its power to kill. Those Jedi who experienced it described the sensation of enjoying the fight, feeling the thrill of the battle and the emotional rush of simply winning. Unfortunately for most Jedi, this was also the beginning of the downward spiral into the Dark Side of the Force.

Brekken Vinthern
this Old Corellian term was used to describe the Bitter Winter disease. This disease strikes the elderly, and creates holes in their memories. It has been compared to the melanncho of the Issori and Odenji.

Brownlung
this Adumari disease is more common in the working classes than the nobility, primarily because the working classes are forced to live in underground turumme warrens. It is similar to lung cancer.

Bunkurd Sewer Disorder
this disease is contracted when a human consumes the specialized bacterium created to combat waste disposal problems on Coruscant. The bacterium, engineered by Bunkurd Corporation, broke down garbage into biodegradable by-products. However, if consumed by humans, the bacterium caused a gastrointestinal disorder that resembled food poisoning.

Findris Flu
this common affliction tends to linger on in its sufferers, even after normal treatment is complete.

Knowt's Disease
a debilitating disease that kills slowly. Pter Thanas suffered from this disease on Bakura.

Melanncho
the Issori name for the intense sadness suffered by the Odenji race. At one time in Issori history, the Odenji were nearly wiped out by a epidemic outbreak of the condition.

Quannot's Disease
an inexplicable, degenerative disease which attacks the nervous system and causes body-wide deterioration.

Rotting Disease
this was a type of disease which was carried by the tesfli piercer of Gorsh. Victims bitten by the tesfli piercer who do not get medical attention find the bitten limb suddenly swells, then turns black. The flesh then falls apart, rendering the limb useless. This disease is worst when a victim is bitten dozens or hundreds of times when they encounter a swarm of tesfli piercers.

Yellow-blood Malaise
this disease if often fatal if contracted by a Wookiee.

Zithrom's Disease
this kidney disorder affected many elderly human males. It was kept in check through the use of Clondex, although Clondex didn't cure the disease.

Epidemics[edit]

Bandonian Plague
a virulent plague.

Brainworm Rot Type A
this disease broke out in the Manarai Heights district of Coruscant's Galactic City, during the year leading up to the Clone Wars. It affected Anomids and Wol Cabbashites most, although it was eventually contained. The brainworm rot was believed to have been carried to Coruscant by a Neimoidian, for that species was known to be resistant to the disease. Essentially an airborne virus, Brainworm Rot Type A attacked those species with high levels of dialogen in their bloodstream. Symptoms include nausea and dementia, and the disease could be fatal if not treated with clyrossa-themin.

Candorian Plague
an especially virulent plague, carried by the Candorian hookworm, that was cultivated by the Empire for use against rebellious worlds. It was thought to have originated in the Bandorian Colonies, which were utterly wiped out by the plague. It was contained and believed eradicated until the Empire used it on Dentaal.

Death Seed
this plague was virtually unstoppable when it was first discovered. The basis of the Death Seed is the creature called a droch, which can steal the life force energy from its victim once it bites the victim. If allowed to remain attached, the droch can quickly burrow into its victim. Once inside, it is absorbed into its victim, but continues to drain life energy from it. The victim dies from unknown, though obviously viral, causes. Bacta therapy was found to quicken the disease, because the bacta only provided the droch with a renewed source of life energy as the victim healed. The only known remedy are Spook crystals from Nam Chorios. The crystals help focus natural sunlight on the parasitic creatures.

Direllian Plague
this often fatal disease can be counteracted by the administration of Shiarha root. The disease and its cure were first catalogued by Doctor T'jaleq Kith'Araquia.

Hardan Plague
this virulent disease was known to be transported by Bogan's Brown Nafen.

Hive Virus
prior to the Clone Wars, these viruses were fairly widespread. They infected an individual and drove them crazy in a relatively short period of time. The virus attacks the mental centers of the brain, altering perceptions. They were also highly contagious. After the Clone Wars, medical technology flourished, and the hive viruses were virtually eliminated throughout the galaxy.

Karatos Plague
Jango Fett used this deadly virus to try and gain the upper hand in his negotiations with Darth Tyranus, shortly before the Battle of Naboo. He carried the spores on his armor, and released them into the air as soon as they were alone. Tyranus, however, used his mastery of the Force to alter his internal chemistry to defeat the virus. Jango was immune to the Karatos Plague, which was native to Concord Dawn, since he had been inoculated against it as a child.

Lali Plague
this great plague caused incredible amounts of geopolitical damage when it swept across a planet, during the last decades of the Old Republic. Its effects were often covered in political science classes.

Mon Calamari Nerveshock
this disease affects the Mon Calamari species, and is always fatal. It can remain dormant for years, virtually undetectable, as the Mon Cal ages. When it finally becomes active, it is too late to save the victim. Rapid degeneration of the nervous system is the primary result of the virus, which eventually leaves the Mon Calamari unable to survive. For these reasons, all Mon Calamari children are immunized against it.

Taren Plague
this dreaded disease has recently been slowed by the use of drugs created on Meris III.

Tastiged Flu
a highly-contagious disease.

Tendor Virus
this deadly virus threatened to wipe out the entire Caldoni System, until a cure was discovered by Jenna Zan Arbor more than twelve years before the Battle of Naboo.

Thorn Fever
this was a deadly virus with no known cure.

Toli-X
this deadly, mutated virus lived in molds that existed on the surface of certain asteroids. In this way, the virus could move from planet to planet. It infected a great number of worlds some twenty-five years before the Battle of Naboo, before the scientists and medical personnel of the Old Republic discovered a vaccine. Most who contracted the virus could be cured by the vaccine. It was later discovered that the planet Kegan had suffered an outbreak of the Toli-X virus, but because of their isolationist government, had never learned of the vaccine. A great many Keganites died because of their adherence to the General Good.

Velmoc Flu
this form of flu was found on the planet Velmor. It was believed to be a minor inconvenience to the Velmoc population, but was considered deadly to the human population of the planet.

Wasp Fever
this was the phrase used by the Korunnai to indicate the effects of being bitten or stung by a fever wasp. As the larvae of the wasp grow and begin to feed on the brain cells of a host, the host experienced dementia, then severe seisures and spasms, as if suffering from a head injury. In general, wasp fever only lasted three or four days, which was the incubation period of the larvae. Any Korunnai stung by the fever wasp was generally considered dead on the spot, and their body was burned to prevent the larvae from hatching and causing more damage.

Bio-engineered[edit]

Bledsoe's Disease
this strange affliction was bioengineered by the Empire, under the direction of Doctor Kaaldar, in the years following the Battle of Yavin. Specific strains of the disease could be unleashed, each causing unique reactions. In general, Bledsoe's causes the skin to burn, then begins discoloring the victim's eyes. The discoloration resolves itself into a starfield pattern, and the individual strains reveal individual patterns. Each of the patterns, however, is a star-map which showed the location of an Alliance base. Imperial forces were instructed to watch for outbreaks of the disease, then round up the victims and read the star-maps in their eyes. Thus, attacks could be made on Alliance bases without open communication of the next target.

Emperor's Plague
developed by Evir Derricote, thus mutagenic plague killed only human beings.

FNV-23
known as the Gray Death, this Imperial-created virus was first tested on the planet Sedesia. Developed under the auspices of the Pathogen-Based Loyalty Enhancement Program by Doctor Fesjo Negleem, FNV-23 had the property of continually changing its antigen needs, making it impossible for an individual to become immune to it. Doctor Negleem later developed the antigen FNV-23-B to help counteract its effects, making it appear that the Empire had helped save the Sedesian people when, in reality, they had made them dependent upon the Empire for their survival.

FNV-23-B
this was the antiviral drug developed by Doctor Fesjo Negleem to "counteract" the effects of the Gray Death plague that struck the planet Sedesia. The Gray Death was actually known as FNV-23 to the Empire, and had been developed by Doctor Negleem as part of the Pathogen-Based Loyalty Enhancement Program. The secret of FNV-23-B was hidden within Imperial computers, but it was discovered that every dose contained tiny globules of FNV-23 held within a polysaccharide coating. When the coating was digested, it release a new strain of FNV-23 into the system, thereby requiring another treatment of FNV-23-B. In this way, the natives of Sedesia were beholden to the Empire for the continual availability of FNV-23-B for their survival.

Gobindi Virus
this deadly strain of virus was discovered by the ancient Gobindi race, which eventually contracted it and was wiped out by it. It was re-developed by the Empire's Biological Warfare Division for use as a weapon. A sample of the virus was entombed in a huge ziggurat, built by thre Gobindi in an effort to stop it from spreading. Before they were all killed by the virus, the Gobindi managed to discover a cure for its actions. However, they were unable to administer it in time. they managed to carve its formula on the stepped walls of the ziggurat, in case the virus escaped. It thrives in hot, humid environments, but was initially not very contagious, requiring a liquid medium to move from one host to the next. Imperial scientists discovered a way to allow it to move through the air. The virus itself resembled a tiny, horned eel, and wrapped its host in a coating of green slime to maintain its environment. This slime allowed the host to move about, thereby increasing the chances of further transmission.

Influenza necrosi
this was a bio-engineered, deadly form of the flu created by the Empire for use as a biological weapon.

Jurrinex6
this hive virus was developed by biological terrorists.

Krytos
this was the codename for Evir Derricote's alien bioweapon. The Krytos virus was developed to affect only aliens, not humans. Originally developed on Borleias, the Krytos virus initially caused a stupor or listlessness in aliens, followed by a dark discoloration of the skin. The skin would later crack and blister, then seem to melt away. The Krytos virus was designed to infect a cell and multiply within the cell until the cell burst from the pressure. The suddenly-release viruses would infect neighboring cells, continuing to multiply and explode cells. The virus affected all cells in an alien's body, including skin, organs, and bones. One unique side effect of the Krytos virus is that it seemed to ignore nerve cells and pain receptors. Thus, the victim was acutely aware of the pain the virus was causing. Derricote developed the Krytos virus with an antidote: it could be counteracted by immersing the victim in large amounts of bacta. The more widespread the virus is, the more bacta is required to eliminate it.

Ruse
this deadly virus was produced by the Empire, during the early years of the New Order. Governor Koong tested it by spraying it over the Umboo province of Roon. Luckily for the natives of Roon, Nilz Yomm was able to discover the cure and eradicate the virus.

Vira606
this synthetic virus was manufactured for the Imperial Security Bureau. It was always fatal, although it wasn't contagious. It could be kept in remittance through regular injections of a serum developed to counteract its effects.

Droid Illnesses[edit]

Cerebellitis
this is a debilitating condition of the brain that affects many human replica droids that are reprogrammed from their original creation.

Cyberostasis
this was a state that a droid could be forced into, as a result of a traumatic experience. It was essentially a protective reflex that was coded into the droid's core programming, and shut the droid's systems completely down. Cyberostasis could be activated due to a number of experiences. However, if a droid was unable to anticipate the trauma, the cyberostasis system would not be activated. In these situations, a droid remained active during the trauma, resulting strange and unusual behaviors.

STD[edit]

The Black Spot
You really don't want to know. Easily caught in the most disreputable Osk brothels.
