Starfighter Mechanic
Passing achieves:
Starfighter mechanic skills {SfrM}
Prerequisite for:
Naval Engineer, Tier 2 (Intermediate Engineering)

The Skill[edit]

Before your character may serve as an experienced technician (mechanic) with the Vast Empire Navy (in other words, before you may use starfighter repair or basic damage control skills in any story posts), and before you start the Second Tier of the Naval Engineer certification program, you must demonstrate that your character has the knowledge necessary to repair Imperial starfighters. This knowledge (and its practical application) is known as the "Starfighter Mechanic" Intermediate Ancillary Skill, in VEN role-playing parlance. You demonstrate this knowledge (and thereby earn the "Starfighter Mechanic" Ancillary Skill for your character's Bio) by completing the following mission.

The Mission : "That Stabilizer's Broken Loose, Again - See If You Can't Lock It Down..."[edit]

Write a short story (750 words, minimum) in which your character must repair at least one damaged or malfunctioning Imperial starfighter, either while in flight or while parked in a hangar bay. VENA prefers that the depicted equipment is from the TIE-series of starfighters, is in service with the Vast Empire, and is something with which your character is already familiar, but the ultimate choice of fighter(s) is up to you. Research the starfighter(s) depicted in your story, and use the information you uncover to detail the problem(s) your character must confront, and to explain your character's solution(s). Be sure to describe the tools and techniques your character employs to fix the damage/malfunction, and finish the story with your character testing the repaired equipment. A description of the uses and limitations of starfighter technology (weapons, deflector shields, ion engines, etc.) is expected. When complete, post your short story to a new thread in the Navy ComNet (making sure to mark it as a Mission for the Starfighter Mechanic Ancillary Skill), and wait for review. If a VENA staff member deems that you have satisfied all the mission parameters, you will have earned the Intermediate Ancillary Skill "Starfighter Mechanic" for your character, and that character may then use the associated knowledge in future story posts.

Good luck.
