History[edit]

Early History[edit]

For reasons still unclear, an unknown warlord came to Krieg's homeworld, Furya, with the express purpose of eliminating all young male children on the planet. The devastation from this invasion was akin to genocide for the entire population as the citizens rose up to fight against this invasion. Most were killed, others enslaved. The reason young males were chosen was that some, a tiny percentage of each generation, Furyan males would obtain some special genetic mutation that allowed them great physical and sensory abilities. This would not manifest until puberty. After that, these "Alphas" would become very, very difficult to kill and thus made these children either cunning warriors or simply very, very dangerous and capable adversaries.

Unknown to the invaders, an even smaller percentage of female Furyans were also capable of receiving the genetic modification. Taras Krieg would eventually that she, too, was an Alpha. But first, she would be found an orphan, parents killed defending her, and unsuccessfully, her older brother from the invading warlord's army. Raised offworld in a variety of orphanages, she became an expert fighter out of necessity and eventually training by a series of mentors.

Troubles[edit]

Upon gaining adulthood, Taras was forced to leave the orphanage system and earn a trade. She signed on with a merchant crew and was becoming a solid systems engineer when her ship was overrun by a mercenary team sidelining in piracy. Taken captive, she was roughly treated but eventually made a member of the crew, learning to pilot fighter craft and fight alongside the same men and women who had taken her prisoner. For five years she quietly learned the art of war, finally betraying her cohorts while they were attempting to overtake a mining colony. She personally killed the mercenary leader, his executive officer and remote detonated a string of thermal detonators the advancing mercs were carrying, wiping out the bulk of them, alongside some of the miners. She surrendered to the locals, who promptly rewarded her by shipping her off to the local sector penitentiary. Here, she served a three year term for piracy, then began a series of prison assignments due to either her past actions or crimes she would commit almost as soon as she would be released.

Turnabout[edit]

During one stint on the prison world of Kiffex, Taras earned the trust of a fellow Furyan who had escaped the invasion yet knew more of their world's history and traditions than anyone she had met before. He could sense that she was an Alpha, and began to train her in learning to explore her abilities. Eventually, a few others came to her aid, training her in various aspects of Furyan culture and fighting ability, and introducing her to entities that would help her make a trade on the outside

Centered, focused, in touch with her history and people, Taras Krieg walked onto a departing shuttle and left her life of crime behind. She was now to become a bounty hunter and trainer of warriors, and a very good hunter and teach at that.

ICS Connections[edit]

Taras Krieg was recommended as a trainer for ICDF special forces after competently and successfully retrieving some disgruntled former ICS employees - and the data spikes they had departed with. She had mentored three special operations teams and is held in high regard by her pupils. Krieg is now often retained for her bounty hunting purposes and is a known entity around ICS facilities, though it is always remembered that she is a freelance operative and is as dangerous as any corporate rival's hired gun.

Abilities[edit]

Physical[edit]

Taras is small-framed but very lithe and well-toned. Her long mane of wavy hair adds to her feral demeanor. She wears loose clothing (when not armored) that allow her to more easily conceal the blades she always had on her person.

Martial Arts and Combat[edit]

Taras is very well trained with any kind of weapon that she can get his hands on, but her weapon of choice is without question the knife. Silent, quick, and deadly, in Krieg's hands the knife is a weapon that is a swift ender of lives. This is not to say that Taras can't or won't use anything else. On the contrary she has been known to use anything from pistols, rifles, shotguns, to blasters, tea cups and anything in between. But it should be noted that Krieg is an efficient killer even if she doesn't have a weapon. Her hands can be just as deadly as a knife, gun or tea cup.

This should not be overstated, Taras always has some sort of bladed instrument hidden on her. Examples range from somewhat exotic items like retractable spikes in her boots to razor blades hidden in her mouth.

Additional Abilities[edit]

As a Furyan Alpha, Taras is, by definition, stronger, faster, more agile, tougher, more resistant to damage and injury, possessing more acute senses, immense stamina, and superior healing when compared to most humans. She is shown on more than one occasion dislocating her limbs for brief moments with only slight signs of discomfort. In general, Krieg possesses an abnormally high threshold of pain and psychologically channels what pain she does feel into anger. With the additional training received on Kiffex, Taras is capable of accessing and channeling these abilities in ways she was previously incapable of doing.

Eyeshine[edit]

Another element of Alphas Taras has is the physical ability called eyeshine. In males, it is a very physical and powerful effect, making one's eyes extremely sensitive to light, but also allowing almost total vision in extreme darkness. Taras has a more limited form, in effect a type of natural light vision. It is not debilitating in full sunshine as well, and does not give the eyes the usual silvery namesake shine that a full-blown ability would provide, though it does cause the eyes to be brighter than deemed normal.

Background[edit]

Taras Krieg is the purported original name (and gender) for the Richard B. Riddick character from the Riddick movie series. Taking some liberties with the character history and merging them with the Jack/Kyra character, this composite makes for a good underworld character in our universe.
