Bio
Appearance & Personality
Body - Robust: As a pure baseline Cathar, Thengil possess a powerful body. He does not wield implacable strength, but is nontheless more than a match for humans in terms of sheer physical prowess. However, a wookiee would beat him in an arm-wrestle. Agile: He has speed and agility far surpassing that of a human in prime condition. This comes from needing the speed to track down and kill his prey in savanna grasslands. Smell: A keen nose helps him scent many things in the air. Distinguishing Features: A dark-purple burn stretches around his face, covering portions of the cheek, eye, and reaching back towards the ear. His build is typical of a pure blooded Cathar, huge biceps and forearms, large chest, legs built for running across plains. His appearance is more lion-like than most Cathar, given his base line genes. He is nineteen standard years of age.
Mind - Loyal Without Question: Now that he is fully settled with having to serve the Empire, Thengil is loyal to the Empire until his dying breath. He would die before he saw it dishonored. High Moral Standard: Thengil has very high moral values instilled into him by his family and society. Albeit, some of these standards have been twisted by The Purest. Again, it seems he would rather die than these values. Passionate: Whenever Thengil speaks it is often with passion and fervor. He will often give heated voice to a subject he feels strongly on. Lacks Confidence: Thengil lacks surety in decision-making. Often he will debate over what is the best decision for some time, slow to think it through. Stubborn: Once Thengil makes a decision, he will stick to it through fire and brimstone. Noble: Thengil fights, lives, and dies for the survival of his comrades and ideals, as well as those of the Vast Empire. He would abhor the idea of killing an unarmed being. Sees Red: Uncertainty goes out the window when Thengil charges into battle. He claims to be almost in a trance like state in battle, what many refer to as 'Tunnel Vision', or 'Seeing Red'. Claustrophobic: Thengil hates small spaces as he is used to the wide open savannah of his homeworld. Even putting on his armor is a challenge for him that he must overcome.
Emotions: Temper: Thengil has a short fuse that burns fast and bright. Though a noble being, it is unwise to be around him when he explodes as his anger is mostly taken out in a physical manner. Though his explosions are violent, they are often very quick. Good Natured: Though quick to anger, the emotional state Thengil can be most often found in is one of pleasantness and goodwill towards all.
History
Thengil missed the smell of the trees, the flowing in the wind, the grass whipping at his face as he tumbled through its overgrown strands. He missed the scent of prey, stalking it, killing and eating. Now he still hunted prey, but not in the manner of his kind. This prey was more cunning than any before. Yet not as fierce as the prey he had hunted. The prey was fellow people now.
Exile. How could such a thing be? He was of the pure line! But that had been his downfall in the end. Once the Cathars whose blood ran pure with the baseline genes were revered. Not so now. They certainly held positions of power and were respected, but they were not the ruling chieftains of old.
The Purest tried to change that. Coming from lines that dated back to the great kings, The Purest was a group who tried to rebirth that time of kings. It began in blood.
Thengil, a naive idealist, had been taken advantage of by The Purest. They convinced him that only the strongest should rule. Only they were fit to hold power. What had swayed him most was their motto, "For the good of the clans!" They were individually stronger, taller, and faster than any other Cathar who was not of the baseline. They thought they were smarter too. If only The Purest could hold power, everything would be fixed.
The other Cathar would not submit. So The Purest forced them to. One by one they took hold of small villages, crushing the opposition with their might. Blood of fellow Cathars spilled onto the streets. Thengil didn't understand. Was this really for the better? But by then he had had no choice but to stay the course he had taken, to destruction or glory.
In the end, the power which was their greatest strength became their greatest weakness. The Purest fought among themselves for who should rule. Thengil, a younger warrior in The Purest, was shunted aside when the fighting started. The Purest slaughtered each other. In the midst of the battle on the Karthan Plains, Thengil nearly died. A lancet of plasma skimmed the right side of his face. It scorched the fur black. Thengil, who was once praised for his golden pelt, now had a deformity. The wound went deeper than flesh. His pride was stricken. Thengil didn't know what they were fighting for.
While Thengil's confusion mounted, The Purest's fighting increased. Finally, the great Cathar Chieftains banded together and went into battle against them and struck them to the ground. Instead of continuing the bloodshed by executing the rebels, the Cathar Chieftains threw them from the planet. Exiled forever.
Thengil Ri'Shajirr had wandered with some of The Purest from planet to planet for a year. Eventually they reached the other side of the galaxy. In a scuffle with Imperial peacekeepers, Thengil's compatriots were killed. Thengil was taken alive. In a cell block, all alone, Thengil had time to think over what he had done. He admitted that what the others had done was wrong. They shouldn't have quarreled with the peacekeepers. Violence, though useful, couldn't achieve everything. Sometimes words were acceptable.
A local recruiter for the Stormtrooper Corps heard that a violent Cathar had been captured. Apparently it had taken several men and finally coma gas in order to take out the wild beast. The recruiter came to see Thengil and found the Cathar quite repentant for what had happened. The recruiter proposed a deal to Thengil. In exchange for his freedom, Thengil would join the Vast Empire's Army.
The Cathar thought over this for some time. This Empire fought to secure peace and a galactic dominion. Just as The Purest had, though on a global scale. He still believed in that. Might didn't make right, but it could make peace. Yes, he would join this Vast Empire.
Now he sits on a shuttle bound for the Academy. The cold walls and machinery are a fair breath of wind from his open grasslands. But it is his, for now.
