The Torrential-class Heavy Cruisers have been a long time in coming. As a result of Senatorial interference, a series of serious design flaws were 'overlooked' resulting in late delivery of the first batch ordered. After extensive refitting to correct the initial defects, the class has finally been brought into service. These vessels are mostly assigned to convoy escort and station/system defense. As such the majority of these vessels fall under the auspices of Support Services.

Background[edit]
Created as escort craft to defend supply convoys during the fears created by the Stark Hyperspace War, the design did not come into production until late in the Clone Wars. Essentially, Torrential cruisers are meant to provide a platform for strike fighters to defend against pirates and other marauding craft. Additionally, they were later outfitted to serve as troop transports for up to a regiment of Imperial ground forces.
