Biography[edit]

Appearance[edit]

Xanatos 677’s appearance is hardly remarkable. His height is neither diminutive nor imposing, and his build is about normal for a physically fit male of his age, if a little on the scrawny side. His pale skin is the hallmark of any human whom has spent too long in space, away from the ultraviolet radiation of a sun. He has no distinguishing scars, markings or tattoos, either.

The only thing that sets Xanatos 677 apart from the crowd is his eyes. They are just a little larger than average, with deep irises the colour of a stormy sea and deep grey rings around the edges. He has been repeatedly told that his eyes are his best feature. Interestingly, he keeps his eyes covered whenever possible, apparently out of a misplaced sense of modesty.

Personality[edit]

Raised in a family of mechanics, mercenaries, mathematical geniuses and special operations troopers, Xanatos 677 has learned the value of silence. He prefers to keep his own counsel and listens far more than he speaks, more than content to let his more boisterous elders and peers do the majority of the talking. He often appears to have his head 'in the clouds', but perceptive individuals will quickly realize that he is just as often faking this air of indifference.

The truth is that Xanatos 677 has a keen, inquisitive mind and seeks knowledge and understanding whenever possible, and when he does speak, it is often in the form of a question or a request for clarification on some subject or another. This inquisitiveness is matched only by his patience: He knows that all things come to those whom wait, and Xanatos 677 is not worried about waiting for things to come to pass - a trait that serves him well.

Unsurprisingly for a man with soldiers on one side of the family and mercenaries on the other, he is capable of pragmatic ruthlessness and does not shrink away from battle or death - the fact that big game hunting is one of his favourite hobbies, and that the ever-dangerous test piloting is his other make clear his lack of regard for death, though it is more his desire to improve himself and overcome challenges that drives him, as opposed to any unhealthy enjoyment for bloodshed.

His skills are very much a result of his upbringing. Raised by a mechanical engineer and a mathematical genius, Xanatos 677 has a habit of looking at any problem like a mathematical or engineering question - every situation, in his mind, has a solution. He is single-minded in his determination and

History[edit]

Birth[edit]

Xanatos 677 (Pronounced Yahn-uh-toss) Bombassa was born at Keldabe, Mandalore nine years before the infamous Battle of Yavin. His mother, the moderately successful mercenary Sarna Bombassa and her adoptive father, the Givin Mandalorian pirate Kodolion Bombassa were both present. His father Xanatos 676 had even managed to find himself some personal leave from his position as a ship engineer at the Imperial Pendari Shipyard for the event. In a peculiar family tradition that apparently stretches back a milennia, Xanatos was named after his father, and is the 677th human male in the family lineage to bear that name. He is currently the only son of Xanatos 676 and Sarna Bombassa.

Early Life[edit]

His parents had met eight years ago during the fledgling Galactic Empire's Western Reaches operation, in the aftermath of the famous Battle of Kelrodo-Ai (now a major holomovie). His early years were spent at Pendari Shipyard, and even his warmongering mother gave up her mercenary life for a security job in order to help raise him. The early days are some of the fondest memories in Xanatos 677's life - during the days, his mother would read him stories of Mandalorian warriors and teach him Mando'a, and during the mornings and evenings his father would play with toys with him.

The Mandalorian Years[edit]

Things changed though, in the year before the Battle of Yavin. The Galactic Civil War began to sweep across the galaxy, and his father was transferred from a comfortable and safe posting on Pendari Shipyard and was moved to the VSD Brilliant, a Victory Star Destroyer and a ship of the line. Knowing that a Star Destroyer was no fit place for a small child, and unable to contest the posting, Xanatos 677 moved to the Pythagoras' Vindication, a Wavecrest-class Frigate designed by the Givin for the Clone Wars - and the personal ship of Kodolion Bombassa.

As much a mathematical marvel as it was a highly efficient war vessel, the craft was perfectly suited to the piracy that Kodolion engaged in - and with two Mandalorian relatives on the bridge and a small army of droid crewmembers programmed to defend him to the death, Xanatos 677 found the Pythagoras' Vindication to be safer than the VSD Brilliant ever could be. There, he received a markedly Mandalorian upbringing, with emphasis on personal combat. It was during this 'training' that he discovered a love for big-game hunting.

Despite the wishes of his mother and grandfather, however, Xanatos 677 was not allowed to join them on pirate raids or see any actual combat, on the insistence of his father. Therefore, he spent the Galactic Civil War studying the theory of combat but never got a chance to learn it under battlefield conditions. After the disastrous Battle of Endor, Kodolion and his crew moved to the Trilon Sector, where the local Moff had taken command of the VSD Brilliant. Managing to secure work as a privateer, the family was reunited on Rattatak.

Defection to the Vast Empire[edit]

After a year of tense disagreements between the crew of the VSD Brilliant and the Trilon Sector's Moff, the entire crew, along with the crew of the VSD Superb and all support ships assigned to them, chose to defect to a neighbouring Imperial faction known as the Vast Empire. Whilst his father and Storm Commando uncle wholeheartedly supported the defection and wanted Xanatos 677 to move with them to Vast Empire territory, Sarna and Kodolion wanted him to accompany them to Mandalore, to undergo his coming of age trials. Xanatos 677 chose the life of an Imperial over that of a Mandalorian.

The next four years of his life were spent on Abrae's shipyards, where his father requested - and was granted - a posting as a Ship Engineer, where he could continue to raise his son far away from the front line. It was during these years that Xanatos 677's desire to become a member of the Imperial Starfighter Corps solidified, perhaps as a result of the death of his younger uncle Jonus 647, a member of the elite Scimitar Bomber Squadron whom lost his life in the Battle of Endor.

Volunteering his spare time to help with some of the routine maintenance on the Starfighters that went through Abrae, as well as working for his father as a mechanical apprentice taught Xanatos 677 quite a bit about starfighter mechanics and technology, and he also signed up for the local shooting club in order to keep his aim sharp. Although he volunteered to serve as a test pilot, he was not permitted due to his younger age. Everything changed when he reached 18 years of age, finally becoming old enough to enlist.

Service History[edit]

The Vast Empire Naval Academy[edit]

It is a throwback from the old days of the Imperial Academy that some pilots graduate faster than others - Han Solo, hero of the New Republic, spent an impressive five years being shunted from one Academy to another! Exercising his typical caution and patience, Xanatos 677 adopted a 'slow and steady' pace when it came to his tuition, signing up for as many courses as possible and learning what he could, whilst volunteering to fly as a test pilot and help out as a mechanic in his spare time.

Both he and his instructors were unsure of just where to put the promising student - he was a skilled engineer, but his combat training from his Mandalorian years would be wasted in a rear-echelon role. Despite this, his reflexes and thinking wasn't quite fast enough to make the grade as a TIE Interceptor pilot. His gunnery was superb, but he also had a knack for getting the best out of any craft he was assigned to. As a result, he was shifted back and forth between Flight and Gunnery schools.

His decision to enlist in the Empire rather than become a Mandalorian had caused a divide between him and his Mandalorian relatives, especially his grandfather whom felt deeply insulted that his pupil had turned his back on his heritage. His communications with his mother's side of the family were restricted for the next two years to his mother, whom was working as a mercenary and privateer on the edges of Vast Imperial space. With his son safely at the academy, Xanatos 676 returned to active duty aboard the VSD Brilliant.

Eventually, after three years of undertaking as many courses as he could and running the risk of becoming a perpetual student, Xanatos 677 was forced to choose between the Starfighter Corps and Fleet Command. Remembering Jonus 647, he chose the Starfighter Corps. He is now undergoing the final stages of his training, preparing for the exam that will see whether or not he is cut out to be a Starfighter Corps pilot. Though his gunnery and mechanical aptitude skills are off the charts, his slow reflexes and natural caution almost meant the difference between success and failure.

Xanatos eventually graduated from Flight School with distinction, earning a double promotion to Senior Crewman and the coveted Star of the Academy medal.
