NOTICE[edit]

The CPS system is not currently in use by the VEN or STC.

Starting Out[edit]

The Character Proficiency System allows you to define your character however you wish. To do this, new members simply allocate a number of levels and points among the traits as follows:

  • Characteristics: 5 levels
  • Characteristic Metiers: 10 levels
  • Skills: 15 levels
  • Skill Metiers: 10 levels
  • Extra Points: 20 points

To raise a skill or skill metier by one, you need only spend one of your given levels. Keep in mind however, that you may only have one characteristic/characteristic metier and two skills/skill metiers at a maximum of level 4 for now. The rest of your characteristics/skills/metiers have a maximum of 3 levels. This restriction is removed once you graduate basic training.

Experience Points[edit]

During stories, characters often suffer through many trials and tribulations. It's only fitting that they garner rewards accordingly. Rewards can take many forms, but the truest reward is the knowledge, skill, and maturity that enable a character to learn from past trials and weather future ones. This increase in a character's learning is reflected in the Character Proficiency System by the awarding of experience points.

Experience Points (or just points) are typically rewarded at the end of each story/campaign. They may also be earned through character development stories, which must be submitted to your Commanding Officer for evaluation and awarding of points. Members may then go about spending these points to increase various traits at a cost shown in the Experience Cost section below. The commanders may award experience however they wish, but here are some general guidelines used:

  • 10 Points -> Graduating Basic Training
  • 1 Point -> Participating Actively (generally at least 4 posts) in a story.
  • 1-3 Points -> Helping to enhance the drama; doing things that advance the plot and make it more enriching for others.
  • 3 Points -> General Promotion
    • 10 Points -> Promotion into Officership
  • 2 Points -> Earning an service medal (half-year, one year, two years, etc)
  • 5 Points -> Every 50 career story posts
  • 2 Points -> Earning an High Council medal

Note: In order for character development stories to earn points, they must truly develop the character. Making four posts in a CD story without any concern for actual character development will result in no points being awarded.

Experience Costs[edit]

  • Characteristic (Body, Mind, Spirit) -> 6 x current rating
  • Characteristic Metier -> 3 x current rating
  • Learning new Skill/Metier -> 4 points
  • Existing Skill -> 4 x current rating
  • Skill Metiers -> 2 x current rating

How to Spend Experience Points[edit]

Once you determine how you wish to spend your points and know you have enough, you may start writing an specialty story to explain how your character gains these newly-found skills (these do count for career posts). A commanding officer will then look it over, and determine if it is satisfactory or otherwise. If not, he or she will usually provide an explanation of why, and how you can fix that.

It's also possible to spend experience points in a 'regular' story, if the commander allows it. Typically this case would be limited to competitions. For example during the Army HSC, the commanders may allow all participants to spend experience points to increase Survival (Arctic) up one point.
