The Interceptor-class Pursuit Cruiser is a capital ship class used by the Galactic Empire. It is a variant of the Vindicator-class Heavy Cruiser created as a competitor to Kuat Drive Yards Ton-Falk-class Escort Carrier.

Background[edit]

Produced as an Escort Carrier, the Interceptor was built on the Interdictor and Enforcer framework, and looks exactly like these sister craft. Described as a "baby" Star Destroyer, the Interceptor performs largely the same function. Though designed primarily to be a starfighter carrier, the Interceptor is heavily armed, and capable of entering the fray along with its starfighters against an enemy fleet.

Characteristics[edit]

The Interceptor-Class is very similar to the moderately armed Enforcer-class Picket Ship, but sacrifices some endurance and carrying capacity for more powerful sublight and hyperspace drives. Interceptors are primarily used to shadow retreating enemy forces, tracking their hyperspace jump vectors in the hopes of tracking them to their bases. Recent advances in soliton wave tracking allows Interceptors to jump into hyperspace in pursuit of fleeing enemy vessels, although this tactic can be deadly if fleeing enemy craft deliberately lead the pursuing vessels into a trap.
