Preston's Hollow is a city located on the planet Lianna that had a population of 201,000 on the 8 ABY census. The city is a leader in "secondary home sales" and also a large tourist attraction. In 2 ABY, a large spaceport was built on the outskirts of Preston's Hollow and a seaport was built a year later in 3 ABY. The mayor at the time, Greg Plattner, was given ten private transport sea vessels for the port and it is connected to four other cities all around Lianna. With the two forms of transportation (three if you include the large amount of speeder traffic), Preston's Hollow is noted as one of the many hubs of Lianna's growing economy.

History[edit]

Founding[edit]

Preston's Hollow was founded many years after Lianna was first sighted, and it was founded by Trebor Preston—whom the city is named after. The city was originally named Seashell, as it is located on a large ocean, but was renamed Preston's Hollow after Preston died in a fatal accident. The form of government they have today was created as the city began to grow—Mayor, Lieutenant Mayor, Police Secretary, Transportation Secretary, Health Secretary, Energy Secretary, Education Secretary, and the City Council—to help keep the city under the correct reigns. The City Council originally started out as a 6-seated council, but as the city began to grow they moved the council-seat requirements down to 50,000 per seat. By the time of 0 ABY, Preston's Hollow had a population of 178,000 souls and three major Liannaian companies located there.

Currently...[edit]

Preston's Hollow is currently headed by George Coleman as Mayor, Norm Blunt as his Lieutenant Mayor, Lt. Captain Keith Presser as his Police Secretary, James Black as his Transportation Secretary, along with four city council seats. This arrangement has been since 6 ABY, when they were popularly elected (one of the few cities on Lianna that allows such). The education in the city has also adapted to modern times, boasting 31 schools owned by the Preston's Hollow Government and two universities. Three major companies of Lianna are based in Preston's Hollow—Regence Grey Fold, a large shipping company, Johnson & Gord, an investment firm, and Bank of Terrace Garden, which is a large bank on Lianna. The median income for Preston's Hollow is 80,000 Imperial Credits per household. Fashion trends in Preston's Hollow has changed since Norm Blunt, the Lieutenant Mayor, began to bring the "suit fashion" into the entire Terrace Garden County. Most businessmen nowadays are seen wearing fine suits and white shirts.

Preston's Hollow's guard unit is dubbed the "Preston's Hollow National Guard" and is headed by the Police Secretary, Keith Presser—who also heads the police department.

Neighborhoods and Cityscape[edit]

Cityscape[edit]

Preston's Hollow has a vivid skyline, dominated by six buildings—Regence Grey Fold Center, Preston Plaza, Johnson & Gord Tower, Columbia Center, Bank of Terrace Garden & Affiliates Plaza, One Hollow Plaza, and Two Hollow Plaza. Surrounding those large towers are small buildings that are from another era and are commonly dominated by the city-owned departments. A huge apartment complex was built in One Hollow Plaza and Two Hollow Plaza—allowing for some of the working class to live downtown instead of the surrounding neighborhoods. Despite One and Two Hollow Plaza having large apartments, the rest of the cityscape's tenants is dominated by law firms, banks, factories, lobbyists, and offices.

Neighborhoods[edit]

Port of Meval, a common swimming location in the Meval neighborhood.

Meval is by far the largest neighborhood in Lianna, having a population of 60,000. Meval is considered the most un-industrialized neighborhood as it has a great view of the cityscape but no interaction with it (as Meval is connected to the rest of the districts by a large bridge). Meval is home to many "secondary homes" and has a history of fashion. Hollos is the second most heavily populated district, with a population of 41,000. Hollos has a vivid-housing scheme, as almost all of the houses are centered around a "capitol". The "capitol" is a rotunda-like building with hairdressers, shops, grocery stores, car dealerships, and many other things you need for your survival. The Department of Transportation built a underground light rail in Hollos, connecting ever "capitol" neighborhood to another, and then finally to the heart of downtown Preston's Hollow.

Onet has a population of 30,000 and is the home to the Lieutenant Mayor and all of the Department Secretary's assigned housing. Onet has a huge hotel-skyscape, with the tallest building reaching 50 floors. There are seven of the 50 floor hotels, and the Lieutenant Mayor and all of the secretaries have an apartment in each of the hotels. Around the hotels are condos that are based around pools and places of interest. Grassroot is commonly considered the agriculture center of Preston's Hollow, having a population of 20,000 and a huge farming community. Grassroot has 980,000 acres of land to it, while the farms are tended to by light staff and at the corner of the neighborhood is the "underground complex" that controls the city. The underground complex holds 10,000 people (half of it is actually above ground) and it is completely city-owned.

Economy[edit]

The economy in Preston's Hollow is booming, with three of the largest companies on Lianna centering in the city. While Preston's Hollow has a huge neighborhood-home construction movement as well. As Preston's Hollow serves as a cheaper port for spaceships due to the light poll taxes on entering the city limits (unlike Lianna City, which requires the pilot to pay a huge fee), and therefore is home to over 800,000 spacecraft, and each family actually owning an average of one spacecraft. Preston's Hollow has an average income of 112,000 credits per household and almost every single male in the city's limits have degrees from a university, and almost half of them have degrees from the University of Preston's Hollow.

Leadership[edit]

Mayor and Lieutenant Mayor[edit]

Sir George Coleman is the 19th mayor of Preston's Hollow. He is thirty eight years old and is commonly attributed with bringing Johnson & Gord to Preston's Hollow with 100 Million Imperial Credits in tax breaks compared to the previous offer of 85 Million in another city. He has also been attributed with adding over seven more naval vessels to the transportation department, adding to the growing sea vessel charter.

Norm Blunt is the Lieutenant Mayor of Preston's Hollow, and a childhood friend of George Coleman. He is thirty seven, a year younger than his direct superior. He heads the fight on Drugs and Population in Preston's Hollow.

Representation[edit]

Senate[edit]

As Preston's Hollow does not have a population over 15,000,000 souls, it cannot have its own senator, so it shares the same senator as the surrounding cities and is represented by Senator Warner, Conservative. Senator Warner was positively elected by Preston's Hollow, taking 59% of the vote from all of the Hollow's four suburbs.

Parliament[edit]

Again, as Preston's Hollow does not have a population of over 7,000,000 souls, they share the same Parliament members with the nearby cities of Troy, Paris, Mesa, Atlanta, Atlanaminor, Fosal, Fellin, Flinn, Timberpash, Timberpaw, Parson, Preston Minor (a neighboring city), and Orlandis. This Parliament representative is Member of the Parliament Flintpaw, a Conservative-Liberal.

House of Representatives[edit]

In the House of Representatives it shares its district with Mesa, Paris, Troy, Timberpash, Fellin, Fosal, Preston Minor, Parson, and Orlandis where the representative is Representative Bacredi, a resident of the city.
