History[edit]

The Broken Crown was the flagship of the Crusader fleet during the return from Osk known as The Devine Right. During the final battle between Osk and Crusader forces when Snipes was freed from imprisonment during a solar storm it was accosted by The Osk Company for their own use. It is not known how old the ship is exactly, but going by the original plans found onboard the ship it has been heavily modified since creation. Judging by the state of some systems it could be hundreds of years old.

It now serves as the The Osk Company's flagship and as a front line troop carrier.

General Characteristics[edit]

Like most Crusader ships this cruiser is built as a testament to the will of their god. Great spires rise up from the deck of the ship, some housing magnificent places of worship. The Crusader systems come from a relatively isolated part of the galaxy and whilst comparable in effectiveness to common ships are a victim of parallel design and are still being understood by it's new crew. Very few monitors or computers exist on the ship, paper printers are used to display information and "Astronomicons" are used for navigation. These Astronomicons are humans of great mental capacity who have been born and bred to become part of the ships own systems, they are hard wired to the ship and entirely dependant on it for survival. In return the ship uses the combined brain space of several hundred of these beings to form some kind of computing cluster. Though disgusted by this practise until they can afford to retrofit the ship with computing systems Osk will have to rely on these creatures.

The ship has been designed with a simple combat doctrine. Rapidly approach to point blank range with enemy ships and ram/board/fire until the other is destroyed. The prow of the ship is protected by both several powerful shield generators and super plated armor. In a ramming action this prow is capable of inflicting serious damage to lighter vessels.

The Crusader technology is apparent in the ships weapons systems. Mounted on the prow are several torpedo tubes which Osk can probably fit with standard ordnance. Currently they are fitted with Crusader scatter torpedoes. These weapons are not designed to inflict much damage, but to immobilise - or at least slow - any targets. With limited tracking systems the torpedoes split into a field of lesser projectiles. These projectiles are either some form of ion missile which disrupts systems or gravity well clamps, which stick to the hull of the target and greatly add to it's effective mass and slow it down.

The broadside weapons of the ship are designed for close range combat. Close range projectile and laser weapons cover the sides of the ship, but the main weaponry comprises of several "Arc Lasers." This technology is still being studied but seems to project some kind of energy field and great arcs of energy slash across the hulls of nearby vessels unlucky enough to end up within this weapons range. At point blank range The Broken Crown is capable of inflicting serious damage to superior vessels.

The ship is loaded with a great many assault barges, with launch bays located on every corner of the ship - including the prow. Whilst the ship lacks the capacity for carrying armor and lacks any drop ships it is capable of unloading a large number of troops for boarding actions in a very small space of time.

The ship is built with an incredibly aggressive design ethic, which suits it's new captain Snipes perfectly.
