Typically, the overly abundant staff of the Vast Empire News Service attempts to spread out various interviews with noted clubs members to allow other important news posts to occur in-between that are not made by ourselves. However, over two laborious week slips by as the ever punctual Father Chronos repeatedly shifts the hour-glass and . . . only a handful of public news posts are made. Why do we bother with intentional time gaps between the interviews then, you ask? Who knows. C'est La Vie.
Our interview for the final week of July will be with the congenial Sergeant Major Cosmic, the leader of the valiant Raiders in the Vast Empire Army and one of the most productive members of our glorious collective.
Interviewer: Now, dear chap, who exactly are you?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: My name, in the Vast Empire, is Cosmic. I have the rank of Sergeant Major and I also have the position of Squad Leader, in which I command Squad 3: Raiders.
Interviewer: Do you have any "favorite" items in the vast Star Wars universe?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: My favorite Star Wars movie is "The Phantom Menace", because they have a lot of action with sabers, the movie flows very nicely, you can get what's going on pretty quickly and still enjoy the film. I like it because the computer graphics are great and the textures . . . wonderful. My favorite actor would be Ray Park because of his Wushu leaping art, even though he barely had any lines, it was easy for me to see that he was a great actor. My favorite actress would be the one and only: Princess Leia. She has got that leadership that I love and a very nice personality that I always enjoy watching. My favorite character would be Darth Vader. He seems to look like he's always in control of his thoughts, but there's a deep-down kindness that makes him incomplete. I like that, mysterious kind of way. I think, that out of all the music in the Star Wars universe, the Star Wars Theme Song is my favorite. It introduces the entire movie and the theme songs within it. It is the beginner of the most fantastic movie ever created in Sci-Fi.
Interviewer: Aha and, how did you come to join us?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: I joined the Vast Empire in the month of September, in the year 2000. I was on the Internet Gaming Zone, playing Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, when suddenly, this guy named VE_Exar_Kun messages me. I believe it's after I played him in No Force Sabers. He asked me if I would like to join the Vast Empire. I checked out the site and was immediately hooked. I filled out the form right there and then, with his supervision of course, and submitted it.
Interviewer: What prior positions have you held in the club?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: After I joined the Vast Empire, I was given the rank of Private, that's the rank you get when you get into the Stormtrooper Academy. I fulfilled the Academy requirements in one day. About a week later, maybe less, I was promoted to Private First Class. I spent about a month in that rank. We then had a competition called: The Omega Campaign. I parcitipated in that with great effort and time. After that was over, I was promoted to Sergeant (skipping the rank of Corporal). I stayed in that rank for a while. Recently, about two months ago, I was promoted to Sergeant Major and was given the responsibility to command the Raiders.
Interviewer: What are the duties of your current position?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: My duty, being a Squad Leader and all, is to lead my troops in Squad 3: Raiders. My job is to discipline them, keep them active, and make them participate in many things.
Interviewer: If you were given the option to occupy any other position in the Vast Empire which would it be?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: I think that if I were given the option of commanding a particular area in the Vast Empire, it would be the Army itself. I love leading others and helping them find their "inner-self". I'm a natural leader, I love to lead, in the Vast Empire, I ask nothing BUT leading. Leading the entire Army, for me, would be an honor that I would never forget.
Interviewer: How many various individuals have you served under during your service in the Vast Empire?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: The people that I have served in the VE could vary in different ways. I've served as a Private First Class in Squad 4: Wraith Squad, the Squad Leader was Agent, forgive me for not knowing the rank. I think it was something other than SGM though. He was a very nice guy, trying to keep me active was another thing I loved. Although I was active A LOT, he wanted to keep his troops active. I looked up to him as being a great leader. I was also under the leadership of Squad 1: (Elite) Iron Horse. Arg! I can't remember that SL name! Of course, not long after the old SL left, the newly appointed SGM Timber_Saden (nice guy) was elected to command Squad 1. I was under him until I got the promotiong to Sergeant Major myself.
Interviewer: Do you have any fondly remembered club memories that you wish to willingly disclose?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: A fond memory in the VE, heh. Well, the best memory I have of the VE was when I first joined. I got into the IRC chat room and spotted a lot of people. I told them that I wanted to go far in the Vast Empire. The people in the IRC chat had high ranks. I couldn't tell which was which (girl/guy wise). They kept messing with my head saying, "Oh, she's a girl." Then the "girl" that was being spoken of said, "No I'm not . . . I'm really a guy, don't listen to them." That went on back and forth for a while. Heh. They really got me then.
Interviewer: What talents do you believe assisted you the most in rising upwards through the ranks in the Vast Empire?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: My best skill is leadership. I was "born" to lead and command. I got that on my own, but a lot of the VE members helped me rise up in ranks and helped me guide my leadership to the greatness it is now.
Interviewer: Any predictions on the future of the club?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: For the size and activity of the VE club, I believe that it will go a long way and keep on going for years to come. Although the VE needs just a little bit more activity from some members, I think that it will do just fine. I, myself, am recruiting like mad! I love it though. I'm a natural diplomat . . . heh!
Interviewer: Do you think anything the Vast Empire should change or remain the way it is?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: I think that the Vast Empire is doing great the way it is. Um, I think that the Vast Empire was had very active members before I entered the VE. Now that a lot of them are retired, the VE has a lot more privates than high rankers. A lot of them are inexperienced and don't stay active. I try my best to recruit as much people as I can, stating that they have to be active and all. But sometimes it just doesn't work. I don't think anything should change, but I would like to see a bit more activity. I talk to people on the [MSN Gaming] Zone and they message me saying, "Well if the VE's so big, why aren't they on the zone?" I respond to them that we have competitions and IP games, which they understand. But sometimes it keeps potential members away from our club.
Interviewer: When you leave the Vast Empire, how do you hope the members will remember you?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: When the time comes when I resign, I hope to be remembered as: Cosmic, a person who was a great leader, had great potential, and actually made a difference for the Vast Empire. A great man, was he, and was a great role-model for younger, newer, Vast Empire members.
Interviewer: With all the new Star Wars games being developed, are you looking forward to any one in particular?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: I am very interested in the new game in development: Jedi Knight 2: Outcast. I would love to get my hands on it :) I believe that since it is a JK game, that the Army would support it.
Interviewer: What is your opinion on the latest Star Wars motion picture installment, "The Phantom Menace"?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: For me, the Phantom Menace was a great movie. Many people see it as another StarWars movie, therefore they make their decisions. But they have to keep in mind that it is the "first" film in the Star Wars saga. The beginning of the Star Wars saga. I believe that all the actors and actresses did an excellent job, all their parts were played well. I would have liked to see more action though: Saber fights. :) I also think that the Phantom Menace stands with even odds with the rest of the Star Wars films.
Interviewer: What are you looking forward to seeing in the Star Wars prequels?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: I'm hoping that Episode II would contain a lot more saber action. I have heard rumers that Episodes II and III would contain the most action, that is what I am hoping to see. I think that if they hold a lot of action, it will be greater than any other Star Wars movie.
Interviewer: Do you have any advice for new members of the club?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: I believe that new members should not only think of getting advice of being active, posting, chatting on IRC, or trying to get promotions, but think of what their actions would be to better benefit the Vast Empire. What THEY can do to help IT. It's kind of like the John F. Kennedy speech except alter it a little: "Ask not what the Vast Empire can do for you! Ask what you can do for the Vast Empire!"
Interviewer: Before we bring this interview to a close, is there anything you wish to add?
Sergeant Major Cosmic: I just want to say that I hope I represented the Vast Empire in all my time within it. I hope that the VE members think of me as a great leader and active person, and that I wish to further the growth of the Vast Empire and help to make it a better club.
Interviewer: Ditto! Thank you, Sergeant Major, for your time.
