INTERVIEW WITH GENERAL ATHRAN
Posted by VE Reporter
Like sand from the hour glass so flow the days of our lives. Yes, insatiable viewers, a new month is now upon us! Pulchritudinous August, gateway to a fresh season of orange and brown hues, has arrived at last and the indefatigable attachés of the Vast Empire News Service have speedily conducted yet another interview in our usual debonair fashion with one of the Vast Empire's finest. The amiable individual who graciously endured our persistent questions was none other than the celebrated commander of the army himself, Prefect Athran.
Since joining our evanescent gaming clique only a brief year after its ostentatious conception, General Athran has become a virtual legend due to lengthy service as HCA-1 and the sheer amount of activity his envied division produces each month. Therefore, without any further preamble, let us proceed with the interview . . .
Interviewer: Outside of the internet, who are you and what do you do?
General Athran: Outside of the Vast Empire, I, Dan Eckerle, am a student at Franklin County High School and live in Blooming Grove, Indiana.
Interviewer: An Indian, eh? Well, what is your favorite Star Wars movie, actor, actress, yadda yadda yadda, etc.?
General Athran: It is rather hard to pick my favorite Star Wars movie, but the Empire Strikes Back would probably be my favorite (any Imperial fan has to love the title alone ;) One of the most interesting characters and probably my favorite would be Boba Fett. My favorite Star Wars computer game would have to be Jedi Knight, it is by far one of the best multiplayer games of all time.
Interviewer: What is the nickname/rank/position/bellybutton of your character(s)?
General Athran: I have two Vast Empire characters. My primary one is Athran who is a General and Dark Jedi Knight and holds the positions of Prefect of the Army and Dark Lord of the Krath. Second is Apocalypse who is a Vice Admiral and holds the Raptor Squadron: Flight 2 Leader position.
Interviewer: And what unquestionably sick and perverted individual coerced you into joining us?
General Athran: Sesswanna recruited me into the Vast Empire back in the days when Reinthaler was in charge of the Navy.
Interviewer: What club positions have you held in the past?
General Athran: In the Army -- Regimental Commander; Tactical Officer; Commander of Personnel; Executive Officer; Prefect (current). In the Navy -- Flight Member; Flight Leader; Squadron Commander; Navy Executive Officer. In the VEDJ -- Cult member; Sect Lord (current); Dark Lord of the Krath (current). I think that is all, but I have no idea how long I held them.
Interviewer: What are the duties of your current position?
General Athran: I run the Vast Empire Army. I enjoy working with fellow Army members, finding out what they like about the VEA, and what they don't like so we can change that and make the Vast Empire Army, a.k.a. Stormtrooper Corps, better. In the Dark Jedi Order I am the Dark Lord of the Krath and as such I manage the Krath Order to the best of my ability. In the Navy, I am simply a Flight leader of Raptor squadron and simply lead my Flight ;)
Interviewer: If you could not be Prefect, what would you want to be? Doctor? Lawyer? Indian chief?
General Athran: I'd love to be a pilot back in the Navy once again. I can remember when Scarecrow, Schnapps, and I had quite the rivalry going in the VEN for elite squadron. That was what being a squadron commander was all about; the competition and the bragging to be the best squad.
Interviewer: What are your thoughts on the various people you have served under in the past?
General Athran: Various people I have served under . . . hmmm. Reinthaler - He knew how the run the navy and did it very well. Niksavel - In my opinion the best Navy Commander that the Vast Empire has had. Spartacus - By far the best person I've met from the Vast Empire. He put his heart and soul into this club and I hated to see him go. Sesswanna - Took the Army to the level it is now, he made it what it is today. Crysus - He continued what Sesswanna started and really put the Army above all the other divisions in the Vast Empire.
Interviewer: Do you have any cherished club memories you wish to share?
General Athran: My fondest memories of the Vast Empire would be when I was in Alpha Squadron on the ISD Nemesis under Sesswanna. Schnapps and Scarecrow would have been on the Devastator and we had quite the squadron competition going to be the best. The most humorous events would be mIRC battles between Schnapps, Donitz, and Majere. Those were always interesting.
Interviewer: In your mind, what key item elevated you to where you are today in the club?
General Athran: I think the only thing that has kept me moving upward is my willingness to adapt to each position and work with it. I've never had the quite the HTML or programming skill that most members have, but I found ways to get pages made and find people that could do them for me. Someone that I know has had faith in my abilities is Sesswanna, he promoted me to Regiment Commander of the Army and after that I climbed my way up the ranks to where I am at today.
Interviewer: Alrightee, do you think the Vast Empire will continue to expand as it has done so in the past?
General Athran: I believe that the Vast Empire has no bounds. If everyone would really put their effort into the Vast Empire it would grow beyond what anyone thought it ever could. This club has the programs and potential to be better than any out there, we just need the right people to take us there.
Interviewer: Are there any changes to the Vast Empire you would make if you could do so?
General Athran: I would like the see the rise of activity in all the divisions in the Vast Empire. I would like to see true competition between the divisions to be the best, which would increase activity more than we've seen in a great while.
Interviewer: Is there anything that you would not wish to change?
General Athran: I hope to not see disrespect of the 'old' leaders of the Vast Empire. They started this club and we should honor them by doing the best we can with leading the Vast Empire into a new 'era.' I think we've lost sight of what the Vast Empire has been truly built on: game playing. If we can once again reclaim that we will enjoy the activity and new members that it brings with it.
Interviewer: How do you hope to be remembered when you eventually must leave us?
General Athran: When my time comes, I just hope that I'll be remembered as continuing the activity that Crysus and Sesswanna started within the Army. And maybe take the army above and beyond any out there.
Interviewer: On a lighter note: Are you looking forward to any of the new Star Wars games soon to be released?
General Athran: I think that any game coming out SW related that has multiplayer capability will be a strong force in the Vast Empire army recruitment drive. With new games and new titles come new recruits and future officers, which the VE needs.
Interviewer: Do you have any special advice for the new members of the Vast Empire?
General Athran: My advice to new recruits would be to ask questions and always keep the communication lines open between you and your superior officers. People that make reports please us 'big whigs' so much ;)
Interviewer: ¾ths is clandestinely bald, eh? Mmm. What did you have for breakfast? Eye of newt?
General Athran: I had Corn Flakes for breakfast.
Interviewer: What is the first irrelevant thought that comes to mind when you gain consciousness each day?
General Athran: Taking my alarm clock and throwing it out the window.
Interviewer: Thank you for your time, General. We hope you will grace our uncomfortable interview chair again with your presence in the near future.
Upcoming interviews in the not-so-distant future include guests such as the Army Tactical Officer, the Naval Commander-in-Chief and a little-known member of the Borg.
